A study conducted at The Hormel Institute in Austin, Minn., may have identified a new marker for colon cancer, according to an ABC 6 News report.
When researchers looked for the marker in patients, they were able to predict whether the patients had colon cancer with 95 percent accuracy, according to Ann M. Bode, PhD, section leader and professor at the institute. "This suggests that this compound TXA2 could be a target perhaps for treating colon cancer or preventing it," she said to ABC 6 News. A larger study is needed to confirm this development.
