HyGIeaCare safe, effective alternative to oral colonoscopy prep: 4 study insights

A study found Austin, Texas-based HyGIeaCare is an effective alternative to conventional colonoscopy prep, Gastroenterology & Endoscopy News reports.

Austin (Texas) Gastroenterology gastroenterologist Harish Gagneja, MD, led researchers in the study presented at the American College of Gastroenterology's 2016 Annual meeting, Oct. 14 to Oct. 16, 2017 in Las Vegas.

Researchers examined 791 patients who underwent HyGIeaCare prep and characterized their bowels as adequate or inadequate per U.S. Multi-Society Task Force guidelines. Additionally, researchers assessed 739 patients on the Boston Bowel Preparation Scale.

Here's what they found.

1. HyGIeaCare adequately prepped 97 of patients.

2. The device inadequately prepped three percent.

3. On the BBPS grading scale, the median score was nine with an average of 7.06.

4. Of the BBPS patients, 94 percent had an adequate prep.

Researchers concluded, "The value of the HyGIeaCare prep continues to be appreciated and evolves as new HyGIeaCare Centers open around the country and physicians become familiar with the simplicity and reliability of the technology."
