GI physician leader to know: Dr. Vincent Yang of Stony Brook University School of Medicine

Vincent W. Yang, MD, PhD, is the Simons Chair of Medicine at Stony Brook (N.Y.) University School of Medicine. He previously served as the R. Bruce Logue Professor of Medicine and the Director of the Division of Digestive Diseases at Emory University School of Medicine, and he has held clinical and teaching positions at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore.

Dr. Yang has won a number of awards over the course of his career, such as the 2007 Silver Pear Mentoring Award-Research from Emory University School of Medicine. He is a member of the Association of American Physicians and American Society for Clinical Investigation. His research interests include understanding the molecular mechanisms that control proliferation and differentiation of the intestinal epithelial cell.

Dr. Yang earned his MD at UMDNJ Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, N.J.; and his PhD at Princeton (N.J.) University. He completed his internal medicine residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, where he also completed his gastroenterology fellowship.
