GI physician leader to know: Dr. Steven Edmundowicz of Washington University School of Medicine

Steven A. Edmundowicz, MD, is chief of endoscopy, as well as director of interventional endoscopy and a professor of medicine at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. He also practices at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in Saint Louis. He is the treasurer of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and the chairman of the Web Education Committee of the ASGE.

Dr. Edmundowicz's clinical interests include biliary and pancreatic disease, endosonography, gastrointestinal bleeding, Barrett's esophagus, sphincter of oddi manometry, interventional/biliary endoscopy and endoscopic ultrasound. His primary area of research is endoscopic therapy for obesity.

Dr. Edmundowicz serves as the senior associate editor of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and his work has appeared in numerous prestigious journals, including Pancreas and Surgical Endoscopy.

Dr. Edmundowicz earned his medical degree at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and completed his residency at Washington University School of Medicine, where he also completed his gastroenterology fellowship.
