GI physician leader to know: Dr. Phillip Toskes of University of Florida

Phillip P. Toskes, MD, is a professor of medicine in the division of gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition at the University of Florida in Gainesville. He is a past president of the American Gastroenterological Association. He is also a member of the American Federation for Clinical Research, American College of Physicians and American Pancreatic Association.

Dr. Toskes is a former chairman of the National Digestive Disease Advisory Board-National Institutes of Health and of the department of medicine at University of Florida College of Medicine. His clinical interests include celiac disease, exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, gastrectomy, hepatitis C, hypochromic anemia, irritable bowel syndrome and nutrition disorders.

Dr. Toskes has won numerous awards over the course of his career, including a distinguished achievement award from the Florida Gastroenterologic Society and the Canadian Gastroenterological Association. He is board-certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology.

Dr. Toskes earned his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore and completed his residency at the University of Maryland Hospital.
