Pedro Greer Jr., MD, is a gastroenterologist practicing at Herbert Wertham College of Medicine at Florida International University in Miami, where he is also a professor and the founding chair of the department of humanities, health and society and association dean for community engagement. He also practices with Gastro Health in Miami. He is a recipient of the MacArthur "Genius" Fellowship and a Presidential Medal of Freedom honoree.
Dr. Greer is a trustee at the RAND Corporation and is the current chair of the Pardee RAND Graduate School's board of governors. Additionally, he is a fellow in the American College of Physicians and American College of Gastroenterology. He established Camillus Health Concern and Saint John Bosco in Miami, which are health centers for persons who are homeless, undocumented, uninsured and from a low income group.
Dr. Greer is board certified and focuses on anemia, colitis, colon diseases and polyps, constipation, Crohn's Disease, diarrhea, digestive diseases and dysphagia. He also has expertise in capsule endoscopy, colonoscopy, enteroscopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy.
Dr. Greer earned his medical degree in a university in the Dominican Republic. He completed his residency and fellowship at University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
