GI physician leader to know: Dr. Kenneth DeVault of Mayo Clinic

Kenneth R. DeVault, MD, is a professor of medicine at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla. He is president-elect of American College of Gastroenterology and certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Dr. DeVault focuses on esophageal motility, reflux and other esophageal diseases as well as motility disorders. His research interests include advances in esophageal motility and reflux monitoring, treatment trials directed at esophageal symptoms as well as upper gastrointestinal disorders that are worsened with aging, including dysphagia and Barrett's esophagus. His work has been published in numerous professional journals, including the American Journal of Gastroenterology and Neurogastroenterology & Motility.

Dr. DeVault earned his medical degree at Wake Forest School of Medicine, formerly known as Bowman Gray School of Medicine, in Winston-Salem, N.C. He completed his residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn., and a fellowship in gastroenterology at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia.
