GI physician leader to know: Dr. Edgar Achkar of Cleveland Clinic

Edgar Achkar, MD, is a member of Cleveland Clinic's department of gastroenterology and hepatology. He is a past president of the American College of Gastroenterology. He is also a master of the American College of Gastroenterology, a fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association and a member of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.

Dr. Achkar's clinical interests include esophageal disorders, motility testing, Barrett esophagus, colitis, colonic polyps, colonoscopy and endoscopic surgery. He is board-certified in internal medicine and internal medicine-gastroenterology.

Dr. Achkar earned his medical degree at Saint Joseph University Faculty of Medicine in Beirut, Lebanon. He completed his internal medicine residency at Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Mass., where he also completed a gastroenterology fellowship. Additionally, he has completed another fellowship in gastroenterology at Cleveland Clinic.
