GI leader to know: Dr. Alan Ganderson of Gastroenterology of Virginia Beach

Alan P. Ganderson, MD, is a gastroenterologist at Gastroenterology of Virginia Beach.

He subspecializes in treating inflammatory bowel disease.

Dr. Ganderson began his career after he earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. He completed an internship and his first residency at the University of Pittsburgh Health Center. His second residency was completed at UC Los Angeles, before he served for two years in the U.S. Air Force.

After his active service, Dr. Ganderson completed a fellowship at the Medical College of Virginia.

He is a past chairman of the Department of Internal Medicine and a past president of the Medical Staff at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital.

Dr. Ganderson lives in Virginia with his wife. He has two children and three grandchildren.
