The risk of developing esophageal cancer for those with Barrett's Esophagus is lower than previously thought, according to a new study published in the New England Journal of Medicine.
Using the Danish Pathology Registry and the Danish Cancer Registry, researchers identified more than 11,000 people with Barrett's Esophagus. They found the risk of developing esophageal cancer was .12 percent — much lower than the previously accepted risk of .5 percent.
