Dr. Mark McAlindon awarded Hopkins Endoscopy Prize for pill camera — 4 key notes

The British Society of Gastroenterology awarded Mark McAlindon, MD, the Hopkins Endoscopy Prize — it's most prestigious prize — for developing the pill camera, Medical Plastics News reports.

Here's what you should know:

1. Dr. McAlindon is a consultant gastroenterologist at England-based Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

2. After creating the pill cam, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was the first center in the United Kingdom to employ the technology in clinical practice.

3. Dr. McAlindon said to Medical Plastics News, "I am extremely honored and humbled to have received this well-renowned award, which is further national recognition of Sheffield’s status as one of the leading endoscopic centres in the UK with one of the largest small bowel services in Europe."

4. Dr. McAlindon thanked his colleagues, specifically Reena Sidhu, MD, who is a past Hopkins Endoscopy Prize recipient. With this recent honor, Sheffield is the only center in the England to have two separate award winners on staff.
