Researcher Hwa-Young Michael Yeh, PhD, donated $50,000 to the Medstar Georgetown Transplant Institute in Annandale, Va., to support the institute's hepatitis B screening clinic, Connection Newspapers reports.

Here's what you should know:

1. Dr. Yeh was diagnosed with hepatitis B while he was in college. He didn't seek treatment because of a lack of symptoms.

2. After he turned 40 years old, he began to feel tired but still didn't seek out treatment. When he turned 56 and discovered a nodule on his liver, he went to Medstar for treatment. He was told he needed a liver transplant.

3. Medstar found him a liver and performed the procedure. With his health restored, Dr. Yeh made the donation to help others battle hepatitis B.

4. He said in reports, "This is not about me, this is more about the screening program. If it can help give a better quality of life, that's what it's all about."
