Dr. Brian Davis hosts video on The Fundamentals of Endoscopic Surgery exam

In November 2016, Brian Davis, MD, hosted a webinar in collaboration with the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons on the "Fundamentals of Endoscopic Surgery — Passing the Exam."

Here's what you need to know.

1. The FEC will become mandatory for students graduating in spring 2018.

2. In the 2017-2018 academic year, graduating chief residents will need to show they're certified in the endoscopy curriculum before they can apply for the ABS General Surgery Qualifying Exam.

3. The exam has a 23 percent failure rate, and many healthcare professionals expect it'll take more than one attempt to pass the exam.

3. The American Board of Surgery created the exam in response to criticism over an insubstantial amount of training in flexible endoscopy practices.

4. Dr. Davis's webinar touches on the new exam's various elements to help residents prepare.
