Congressman Jim Gerlach to Visit PA's Berks Center for Digestive Health

U.S. Rep. Jim Gerlach (R-Pa.) is scheduled to visit Berks Center for Digestive Health in Wyomissing, Pa., on Feb. 10, according to a news release from Physicians Endoscopy, which owns BCDH with local physicians.

Rep. Gerlach sits on the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Health. The jurisdiction of the Subcommittee on Health includes bills and matters that relate to the healthcare programs of the Social Security Act. As part of his responsibilities on the subcommittee, he is planning to tour BCDH to learn more about how ambulatory surgery centers are an integral part of the healthcare delivery system in the United States, according to the release.

During his visit, he will meet with the center medical and administrative staff and speak with Louis La Luna, MD, medical director at BCDH and president of the Pennsylvania Society of Gastroenterology.

"We are honored that Congressman Gerlach has chosen to take time out of his busy schedule to visit BCDH," said Dr. LaLuna, in the release. "This is an extremely fortunate opportunity for our center and sends a clear and important message to the people in our community that their government is taking healthcare seriously, and that ambulatory surgery centers are a vital part to our healthcare delivery system. This visit gives BCDH a platform to send a message to people in our community that they need to be vigilant in taking preventative steps when it comes to their healthcare and that screening for colon cancer is a very important part of those precautionary measures."
