Colon and Rectal Institute of the Lehigh Valley adds da Vinci robotic system — 4 key notes

The Colon and Rectal Institute of the Lehigh Valley (Pa.) now offers patients da Vinci robotic system treatments, The Morning Call reports.

Here's what you should know:

1. The da Vinci system allows for minimally invasive colon surgery. It creates smaller incisions, resulting in less pain, less pain medication and a faster recovery.

2. David Bub, MD, of the center, has performed multiple robotic surgeries to date. He said the robotic system allows him to perform colon and rectal surgeries at an elevated level.

3. After colon surgery with the robotic system, patients can return home in as little as two days.

4. The da Vinci system was initially designed for urologists and gynecologists, but the new Xi platform was designed specifically for colon resection.
