AMA requests publication delay for Sunshine Act database

The American Medical Association is requesting that CMS allow for more registration and review time before publishing the Sunshine Act database.

The AMA reasons that the Open Payments website is poorly functioning and that CMS has had poor communication with physicians and the public.

CMS opened the Open Payments database on Aug. 15 and physicians have until Sept. 8 to complete registration and seek corrections.

The AMA offers support of the Sunshine Act, but demands a longer timeframe to avoid the publication of inaccurate data.

The American Gastroenterological Association's call for Sunshine Act reform mirrors the AMA's efforts.
