Actavis completes $70.5B Allergan acquisition, Valeant wins Salix bid & more – 6 recent GI/endoscopy company key notes

Here are six recent news updates on gastroenterology and endoscopy companies.

Actavis completed the acquisition of Allergan in a cash-and-equity transaction valued at approximately $70.5 billion. 

Cellvizio, developed by device company Mauna Kea Technologies, received a new CPT code from the American Medical Association. The Category III CPT code, 039X7T, will go into effect Jan. 1, 2016.

Professor Pier Alberto Testoni, director of gastroenterology and digestive endoscopy IRCCS at San Raffaele Hospital in Milan, Italy, performed three MUSE procedures for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease. The MUSE procedure from medical device company Medigus is an incisionless procedure.

Norgine and Arc Medical Design partnered to distribute the ENDOCUFF VISION device. The ENDOCUFF VISION is a single-use, sterile endoscopic overtube designed to improve extubation and visualization during colonoscopy.

Valeant Pharmaceuticals International has won the bidding war for Salix Pharmaceuticals. The company upped its bid by approximately a billion dollars to win out against competing bidder Endo International, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal.

Swallow Solutions raised $1.1 million in a funding round led by Wisconsin Super Angel Fund. The funding will serve to support the sales efforts for the company's swallowing disorders device. Thus far, the company has raised $3.2 million from investors.
