5 Recent GI Center Openings, Plans & Expansions

Memorial Medical Center in Ludington, Mich., has recently opened a new emergency room and intends to convert the old emergency room space into an endoscopy center.

Physicians Endoscopy and five local gastroenterology physicians have certificate of need approval for the construction of the Island Digestive Health Center in West Islip, N.Y. The joint venture center is expected to open in the first quarter of 2014.

Palo Alto Medical Foundation has received approval to build and ambulatory surgery center in Fremont, Calif. The 20,400-square-foot surgery center will include two endoscopy suites, four operating rooms, five post-anesthesia care recovery bays and 18 pre- and postoperative bays.

Stony Brook (N.Y.) Children's Hospital has opened a center for the diagnosis, treatment and support of patients with celiac disease and gluten sensitivity.

Research firm Vice & Associates Clinical Research in Orland Park, Kan., has added an endoscopy suite to its clinical pharmacology unit, which expands its gastrointestinal therapeutic capabilities.
