6,000 ASCS -- 40 percent in 5 States; Law Firm Profits Down; January Issue: 40 Companies to Watch and 20 Great Places to Work

1. SDI reports that there are now almost 6,000 ASCs nationally with nearly 40 percent in aggregate in five states. In contrast, there are also close to 6,000 hospitals, of which about 200-plus have physician-ownership of some sort. Learn more about SDI.

2. Its been reported as part of the CitiCorp law firm study that, for the first six months of this year, in a situation that has brought a great deal of sympathy from many quarters, that law firm profits at the largest 100 firms are down on average by more than 9 percent. This is of course for the first six months of 2008, which is likely to be the better half of the year.

3. The January issue of the Becker's ASC Review will focus on and highlight 40 companies to watch and 20 ASCs that are outstanding places at which to work. The February issue will focus on ASC mergers and acquisitions, buying and selling ASCs, and valuation issues for ASCs.

Is Your ASC in Compliance With USP 797?

You are invited to participate in a national survey regarding awareness of United States Pharmacopeia (USP) 797 and its practical effects on ASCs. USP 797 is the regulation that deals with sterile product handling; its revised standards came into effect on June 1.

Please share your opinions, as this survey will yield timely insight into how USP 797 has impacted ASC operations. Survey results will be published in the future on www.BeckersASC.com and used to assess the need for additional educational offerings regarding USP 797 that may help reduce sterile product-associated risks to ASCs.

Your survey responses will be strictly confidential and data from this research will be reported only in the aggregate. If you have questions at any time about the survey or the study procedures, please e-mail Cynthia Waisner. Thank you very much for your time and support.

Please click here to start the 10-minute survey now.

Learn more about USP 797 here.
