Benchmarking Statistics: Staff and Supply Costs

Here are benchmarks for collections and supply and staffing costs relative to your ASC's income, from Ann Geier, RN, MS, CNOR, CASC, and Susan Kizirian, RN, MBA, of Ambulatory Surgery Centers of America.

Collections as a percentage of charges:

- Excellent -- greater than 32 percent
- Average -- 25 percent
- Poor -- less than 19 percent

Medical supplies as a percentage of collections:

- Poor -- greater than 27 percent
- Industry median -- 22 percent
- Average -- 20 percent
- Excellent -- less than 14 percent
