3 Points on Negotiating Part-Time Employment Contracts in Medical Practices
An American Medical News report discusses three tips for negotiating part-time employment contracts in medical practices:
- Clearly indicate whether the physician is an employee or independent contractor. If a physician is an employee, for example, the employer must withhold income, social security and Medicare taxes.
- Determine the physician's share of overhead expenses. This can be done by allocating the expenses based on the physician's share of the schedule at the practice.
- Negotiate call coverage responsibility. A part-time physician may be willing to take reduced call coverage because they spend less time in the office than full-time employees.
