At the 12th Annual Spine, Orthopedic and Pain Management-Driven Conference + Future of Spine in Chicago on June 13, Michael McKevitt, senior vice president of business development at Westchester, Ill.-based Regent Surgical Health, discussed opportunities for ASC developers to successfully enter new markets.
He spoke of Regent's recent partnership with a group of physicians in Ireland looking to open a surgery center.
"It's a much smaller world, and you need to look beyond your comfort zones to find opportunity," Mr. McKevitt said.
When determining why Regent Surgical Health may want to partner with the practice in Ireland, Mr. McKevitt said it was important to understand the culture, the environment and reimbursement of the country's healthcare industry.
"As early entry into the market, we have to be cautious. We have to learn what the market is," Mr. McKevitt said.
