WEDI releases "Perspectives on Cybersecurity in Healthcare" report: 5 things to know

The Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange has developed "Perspectives on Cybersecurity in Healthcare," a primer on cybersecurity in healthcare which illustrates some of the challenges healthcare organizations face in guarding themselves from cyberattacks, as well as discusses some of the vectors in which they occur.

Here are five things to know:

1. Between 2010 and 2014, approximately 37 million healthcare records were compromised in data breaches, according to a statement from Devin Jopp, EdD, president and CEO of WEDI.

2. In 2015 alone, more than 99 million healthcare records have already been exposed through 93 separate attacks.

3. Mr. Jopp said that the risk of cyberattacks is no longer limited to the IT world, and is an issue executive leadership teams must be addressing.

4. WEDI is a nonprofit organization aimed to create efficiencies in healthcare information exchange.

5. The primer is available here.
