Valeant CEO receives $62.7 million for eight months' work: 4 key notes

Laval, Canada-based Valeant CEO Joe Papa received $62.7 million in compensation for eight months' work amidst a "disappointing" financial year, CBC reports.

Here's what you should know.

1. Valeant awarded Mr. Papa $42 million in stock awards and $10 million in stock options, as well as an $8 million signing bonus and his $980,769 salary.

2. Mr. Papa's compensation was half of what Valeant paid former CEO Michael Pearson in 2015. Mr. Pearson received $141.6 million.

3. Valeant had a "disappointing" 2016 fiscal year. Its stock lost 90 percent of its value and had $2.4 billion in losses, CBC reports.

4. In its proxy report ahead of its May 2, 2017 annual meeting, Valeant said, "While we are disappointed with our financial results and share price performance, we have accomplished important steps to position the company for a turnaround."
