ASC Turnarounds: Ideas to Improve Performance
Understanding the Needs of the Next Generation of ASC Physicians: Q&A With Sarah Martin of Meridian Surgical Partners
Sarah Martin is regional vice president of operations of Meridian Surgical Partners.
Q: What should ASCs that are looking to recruit younger physicians know about these physicians' needs and expectations about working in an ASC?
Sarah Martin: Their financial expectations. While ASCs are still a great return on investment, depending on what new physicians fresh out of school have in the way of school loans, they may not be able to afford partnering in an ASC.
Along those same lines, these younger physicians, may decide to work for a local hospital for an agreed upon period of time in exchange for repayment of these school loans. One needs to know who you are competing with for their business. Depending on the specialty, many of the younger physicians were exposed to ASCs during their training and they already know that they enjoy the quick pace and return to the office, or to enjoy an afternoon off if working in an ASC versus a hospital. These physicians are easy to get to use your ASC as they have already been sold on the efficiencies and pleasant environment that we have to offer.
