The following are 10 ambulatory surgery centers that have made the news locally, at the state level or nationally in the past week.

Roanoke (Va.) County Eye Centerwas approved to open a third operating room in Roanoke, which will alleviate overflow at its other two ORs in Salem, Va.

La Peer Health Systems' Babak Larian, MD, has traveled to Guatemala to provide six days of charity care there. The ear, nose and throat physician goes with a group of more than 100 other healthcare providers to the town of Chichicastenango.

Digestive Endoscopy Center in Dayton, Ohio won a Better Business Bureau integrity award during a gala at Sinclair Community College.

Alton/ Sand Canyon Surgical Center in Irvine, Calif., hosted a free surgery day in partnership with Access OC, a group that facilitates healthcare donation. This is the 13th such event the center's parent hospital.

The Tampa-based Morsani Ambulatory Surgery Center's medical director received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Greater Temple Terrace Chamber of Commerce.

Mallard Creek Surgery Center (Charlotte, N.C.) was opened this month by a group of 20 OrthoCarolina physicians.

Eye Surgery Center of Nashville(Tenn.) announced it will add approximately 4,000 square feet to its existing location

Monocacy Surgery Center (Frederick, Md.) opened in partnership with SurgCenter Development.

Oklahoma City-based Laser Spine Institute's Jeffrey Nees, MD, became the second physician in an Oklahoma ASC to perform a two-level artificial disc replacement.
