Trump's hiring freeze leaves 700 CDC open positions: 4 things to know

A hiring freeze is leaving almost 700 CDC positions unfilled, according to AJC.com.

Here are four things to know:

1. The freeze applies to the CDC, HHS and the National Institutes of Health. The Trump administration imposed the hiring freeze in an executive order President Donald Trump signed Jan. 22.

2. The Trump administration's hiring freeze impacts programs that influence public health emergency readiness, infectious disease control and chronic disease prevention, according to researchers.

3. The CDC has unfilled positions for analysts, scientists advisers and public health policy analysts.

4. Tom Frieden, MD, resigned as CDC director this year, leaving the agency without a director.
