Data for the following statistics was taken from the AAMC Data Warehouse and the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine's enrollment information.
Here are the top five states with the highest rates per 100,000 population of students enrolled in medical or osteopathic schools in 2012-13 academic year:
• West Virginia — 84.6 percent
• Vermont — 74 percent
• Missouri — 63.9 percent
• Pennsylvania — 62.3 percent
• Nebraska — 60.4 percent
