Thousands without healthcare access in Tennessee, report finds — 5 things to know

The Tennessee Justice Center in Nashville released a report detailing the impact the state's healthcare gap has on local communities, according to WKRN-TV-Nashville.

Here are five things to know:

1. People who fall within the healthcare gap earn too little to buy private insurance, but they don't qualify for TennCare. TennCare is the state's version of Medicaid.

2. In Tennessee, 280,000 people lack healthcare access.

3. The report stresses the need for Gov. Bill Haslam's healthcare plan to extend healthcare access to thousands of Tennesseans.

4. In the last legislative session, the proposal to extend healthcare failed.

5. However, many lawmakers and healthcare advocates in the state have discussed potentially reviving the proposal in the January session.
