The stages of telehealth revealed by Logicalis: 5 observations

Millennials want to ditch the in-person appointments and pick up their phones to access healthcare, according to Logicalis Healthcare Solutions, a healthcare-focused section of Logicalis US, pushing more healthcare providers to expand care digitally.

Here are five observations:

1. Logicalis found healthcare providers expanding to telehealth are in one of three stages: ad-hoc solution, department telehealth strategy or clinically-integrated telehealth solution.

2. The ad-hoc stage is the first step towards telehealth, in which companies are just satisfying the wants of a small number of patients; the second stage involves a more standardized telehealth system; and the third stage allows advanced data exchange between healthcare providers.

3. More than 30 service lines already use telehealth services regularly.

4. Those practicing companies use one of four solutions: synchronous, store and forward, remote monitoring and mobile health/wellness.

5. The synchronous solution involves a live, bi-directional video encounter; the store and forward solution is a transmission of images and clinical results to be reviewed later; the remote monitoring solution is a collection of vital signs and health progress data; and the mobile health and wellness involves care supported by mobile devices to promote healthy behavior.

"In the not-too-distant future, telehealth will be such an integral part of the medical experience that there will be no difference between healthcare and telehealth," said Ed Simcox, Healthcare Practice Leader at Logicalis, "telehealth, will be healthcare."
