SCAN Health Plan, a nonprofit Medicare Advantage plan in Long Beach, Calif., revealed the top 10 medical groups in its provider network for 2015.
Here are four key notes:
1. The 10 medical groups received an average of 4 stars or higher for SCAN's metrics, including preventive screening, chronic condition treatments and adequate documentation.
2. These top 10 medical groups comprise about 21 percent of SCAN's total membership.
3. Greater Newport Physicians in Irvine, Calif., HealthCare Partners headquarted in Torrance, Calif. , Riverside Medical Clinic in Riverside, Calif., Scripps Health Plan Services in San Diego and St. Joseph Heritage Healthcare headquartered in Fullerton, Calif. topped the list for the second consecutive year.
4. Affinity Medical Group in San Francisco, Axminster Medical Group in Los Angeles, Brown & Toland Medical Group in San Francisco, Mercy Physicians Medical Group in San Diego and UCLA Medical Group in Los Angeles joined the list.
"Each of the top-performing groups has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to not just meeting but exceeding specific quality standards," said Romilla Batra, MD, SCAN corporate medical director. "By doing so, these groups are raising the bar for healthcare in their communities."
