Remembering 4 solid virtues of healthcare

In the evolving healthcare landscape, Forbes considers four core values of the healthcare system.

Here are four virtues:

1. Excellent clinicians. Healthcare is more than just good scores and innovative technology. Patients want dedicated physicians who are passionate about their work. Good clinicians practice great bedside manner, possess impeccable judgment and are available for patients.

2. Continuity. The industry has focused on splitting up care into specialties and subspecialties as well as outpatient care and inpatient care. Patients may feel lost in the overwhelming amount of providers they see, weakening a core physician-patient relationship.

3. In-person visits. Should providers use telemedicine as a substitute rather than an adjunct to face-to-face interactions? The virtualization of care has further separated the patient from the provider, which in most cases isn't detrimental. However, in some cases, in-person interactions are vital to care.

4. Passion. Many physicians are no longer experiencing joy when practicing, but rather burn out. The industry is trying to rapidly evolve, but physicians are caught in the cross-fire.
