Physicians vs. spouses: 6 statistics on earnings

Here are six key points on how physicians' earnings compare with their significant other, according to the Medscape Physician Debt and Net Worth Report 2015.

1. Ninteteen percent of male surgeons don't have joint finances with a significant other; the same is true for 27 percent of female physicians.

2. Five percent of female physicians report their significant other earns a lot more than they do; 1 percent of male physicians said the same.

3. Six percent of female physicians report their significant other earns somewhat more than they do; 2 percent of male physicians said the same.

4. Five percent of male physicians and 11 percent of female physicians say their significant other earns about the same as they do.

5. Ten percent of male physicians and 14 percent of female physicians report their significant other earns somewhat less than they do.

6. Sixty-three percent of male physicians report their significant other earns a lot less than they do; 37 percent of female physicians reported the same.
