Oregon state representative visits EyeHealth Eastside Surgery Center: 3 takeaways

Representative Bill Kennemer (Ore. R-39) visited the EyeHealth Eastside Surgery Center to learn more about the top issues facing ASCs in the state.

Here's what you need to know.

1. Shane Kim, MD, CEO of EyeHealth Northwest Ann Hulett, Director Cherie Shevlin, RN, and lobbyist with NW Grassroots and Communications Doug Riggs all met with Mr. Kennemer.

Ms. Shevlin said Mr. Kennemer was "very sympathetic to the challenges that ASCs face," and called him a "champion for our patients."

2. Oregon has pending legislation that would allow patients to stay in ASCs for an additional 48 hours if it's deemed medically necessary.

3. The group discussed several matters including: how to lessen the administrative burdens of fire marshal inspections, how to improve targeted workforce issues and possibly changing payment practices to health insurance companies.
