The Ohio Association of Ambulatory Surgery Centers signed a contract with the Bureau of Workers Compensation to start a joint arthroplasty certification program for ambulatory surgery centers, according to an OAASC report.
Here are four things to know:
1. The partnership hopes to develop a process and criteria for ASCs to be "additionally certified" to provide joint arthroplasty for BWC patients.
2. OAASC also hopes to advance codes within a BWC setting to eventually improve BWC reimbursement for all procedures.
3. The BWC worked to add the discectomy/laminectomy procedure in 2013 to the BWC ASC payment schedule.
4. In 2014, the BWC Health Care Quality Advisory Committee approved developing a joint arthroplasty program for ASCs.
