Novartis Foundation names new board of trustees members: 5 things to know

Novartis Foundation, a Basel, Switzerland-based healthcare solutions company, appointed four new members to its board of trustees.

Here are five things to know:

1. Joerg Reinhardt, PhD, is the chairman of the Novartis Board of Directors and was named the chairman of Novartis' board. He replaced Andrin Oswald, MD.

2. Professor Piot, director of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, joined the board. He was the founding executive director of UNAIDS and co-discoverer of the Ebola virus.

3. The board also welcomed Rebecca Weintraub, MD, assistant professor at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Weintraub is an associate physician in the Division of Global Health Equity at Brigham and Women's Hospital.

4. Rainer Boehm of Novartis Pharmaceuticals also joined the board.

5. Novartis works to create healthcare models for poor populations internationally. They are trying to eradicate leprosy and malaria by interrupting transmission.
