New Jersey surgery centers make $3.75B economic impact last year: 4 things to know

A report from the New Jersey Association of Ambulatory Surgery Centers has found New Jersey surgery centers contributed $3.75 billion to the state's economy in 2014, according to an nj.com report. Here are four things to know.

1. Last year, New Jersey's 364 surgery centers employed 9,100 people.

2. The state's surgery centers generated $73 million in tax dollars.

3. In New Jersey, surgery centers pay taxes based on the amount of profit made. In 2004, the maximum tax was $150,000 per year, but now the more profitable centers in the state paid $350,000 each, according to the report.

4. The positive economic impact surgery centers made in 2014 was not insignificant. The state has 72 hospitals, which are much larger organizations. In 2013, these hospitals had a $21 billion impact on the state economy, according to the report.
