New Albany Surgery Center performs robotics procedure: 5 things to know

New Albany Surgery Center in Ohio and OrthoNeuro added to Navio orthopedic surgical system to assist surgeons in partial knee replacement surgeries.

Here are five things to know:

1. The Blue Belt Technologies Navio technology for partial knee replacements uses a CT-free intra-operative registration, planning and navigation platform.

2. The Navio robotic-controlled handpiece assists the surgeon in preparing the bone with the precision of robotics in a hand-held, freehand sculpting technique.

3. Mark Gittins, MD, orthopedic surgeon at OrthoNeuro said the Navio systems allows him to visualize patient's x-rays before he removes bone, and technology like Navio allows for precise resurfacing of knees, leading to improved outcomes.

4. The robotic system will be used in many of the approximately 300 partial knee replacement procedures performed each year at New Albany Surgery Center.

5. New Albany Surgery Center is a 16,000-square-foot facility, with same day surgery accounting for over 75 percent of all surgeries performed.
