Lee Memorial Outpatient Center staff aid injured driver: 5 key notes

Lee Memorial Outpatient Center staff responded to a driver of a vehicle in need of assistance on Interstate 75 in Southwest Florida, according to Naples Daily News.

Here are five things to know:

1. The team quickly devised an action plan and used an AED and administered CPR.

2. Staff members notified EMS while comforting the family who directed the patient to the medical center.

3. Diane Smith, system director of nursing and clinical services, explained Lee Memorial has AEDs in high traffic areas throughout the system to prepare for situations like the one presented.

4. Lee Memorial Health System plans to increase the number of AEDs in Lee Physician Group offices throughout Southwest Florida.

5. The staff worked tirelessly to revive the patient using a combination of AED and CPR, which when used together have a higher rate of success than only using CPR.
