Kaiser Permanente to open medical school in Southern California: 5 things to know

Kaiser Permanente plans to open a medical school in Southern California in 2019, according to The New York Times.

Here are five things to know:

1. With its medical school, Kaiser hopes to offer an education focused on integrated healthcare.

2. The medical school will not partner with any academic institution.

3. The first class will probably have 46 medical students.

4. Kaiser did not disclose the expected cost of the project.

5. The insurance company currently educates about 600 residents in its program.
