How to Keep Business Staff Productive: Q&A With April Sackos of Meridian Surgical Partners
April Sackos is director of business office operations for Meridian Surgical Partners.
Q: With business operations staff wearing many hats these days, what advice do you have to keep these individuals productive in all areas of their work?
April Sackos: Motivate, educate and communicate. Ensure that your staff clearly understands their roles and expectations. Establish team goals and prioritize during weekly meetings. Recognize your staffs' strengths and weaknesses and tap into the strengths. Provide solid cross training and the necessary tools for optimal job performance. Something as simple as a headset or a new chair can improve job performance. Recognize a job well done with movie tickets, lunch or a casual dress day.
These all go a long way in motivation and positive job performance. Managers need to understand the functions of each position in the business office and be able to perform these functions, so that you can step in and help when needed. You will not only have a much better understanding of your staff's concerns when they arise, but you will also garner their respect.
