CMI/Compass polled 2,780 U.S. healthcare professionals in specialties including primary care, cardiology, oncology, neurology, dermatology and pulmonology.
Here are six things to know:
1. The survey found traditional media sources, including print and online medical journals, continue to be the top means for physicians to obtain information to stay up to date on the latest medical developments and treatment options.
2. Seventy percent of oncologists reported online and medical journals were equally important.
3. More than half (53 percent) of primary care physicians said pharmaceutical representatives update them on medical developments and treatment options.
4. Across all specialties, 70 percent of respondents reported searching for information online each day.
5. Forty-six percent of oncologists use online search engines four times daily for professional reasons.
6. Many respondents said they search brand-specific pharmaceutical or medical device websites to search for dosing information, safety information and clinical data.
