Healthcare spending hit $3.2T in 2015, up 5.8% — 5 takeaways

Health Affairs published a study finding healthcare spending rallied 5.8 percent in 2015.

Here are five takeaways:

1. In 2015, healthcare spending totaled $3.2 trillion.

2. The figure translates to $9,990 on a per-person basis.

3. Last year, healthcare spending comprised 17.8 percent of gross domestic product, up from 17.4 percent in 2014.

4. The uptick in healthcare spending was due, in part, to more spending on private health insurance as well as more physician and clinical services spending.

5. Other factors driving spending growth include Medicaid expansion and more retail prescription spending.
