Healthcare adds 39k jobs in July: 5 things to know

The Bureau of Labor Statistics released the 2017 jobs report, showing similar results to the June report.

 

Here are five things to know:

1. Overall, the unemployment rate remained relatively flat at 4.3 percent in July. Around 7 million Americans were unemployed. The labor force participation rate was also flat at 62.9 percent in July.

2. Healthcare employment increased by 39,000 jobs in July. The healthcare industry has added 327,000 jobs to date.

3. Ambulatory healthcare services added 30,000 jobs last month and hospitals added 7,000 jobs.

4. The average hourly earnings for nonfarm payrolls was $26.36, up 2.5 percent year-over-year. In the private sector, nonsupervisory and production employees saw a $0.06 pay increase to $22.10 per hour.

5. Average work week hours for all employees on private nonfarm payrolls was 34.5 hours in July, similar to previous reports. Average overtime was 3.3 hours.
