GOP voters primarily concerned about escalating drug prices — 7 key points

While many Republican presidential contenders are working on plans that would replace the Affordable Care Act, reports reveal GOP voters' main healthcare concern is escalating drug prices, according to Politico.

Here are seven key points:

1. A Kaiser Family Foundation poll found Republicans believe drug prices are the No. 1 healthcare priority.

2. Approximately three-quarters of Americans believe drug prices are too high.

3. A recent poll found 86 percent of Republicans believe drug makers should release information on how they determine prices.

4. Eighty-three percent of Republicans believe the government should allow Medicare to negotiate for drug prices.

5. A reported 76 percent of Republicans believe the government should cap what companies can charge for drugs to treat cancer and other life-threatening diseases.

6. Seventy-two percent of Republicans believe the government should import drugs from Canada.

7. The poll indicated Republicans showed a strong preference for solutions that use the marketplace. When polled as to whether federal regulation or competition would be better at reducing drug costs, 51 percent favored competition overall.
