GOP candidate Carly Fiorina backs mandated healthcare — 5 key points

Despite potential backlash from the Republican Party, presidential candidate Carly Fiorina supports mandated healthcare for Americans, according to CNN.

Here are five key points:

1. In 2013, Ms. Fiorina stated no American should be denied healthcare because of pre-existing conditions, but she still called the Affordable Care Act an "abomination."

2. A spokeswoman for Fiorina's campaign said the candidate backs a mandate consisting of ''catastrophic care''  insurance plans that would utilize federal dollars to subsidize state-based high-risk pools for patients who cannot afford care.

3. Her plan varies from the ACA because the ACA requires every American be covered with plans that have a higher threshold of services.

4.  In the 1990s, many conservatives and Republicans, like Ms. Fiorina, supported mandated healthcare, but this has not been the case since the implementation of the ACA.

5. The Supreme Court ruled the ACA’s individual mandate was constitutional in 2012.
