The global telemedicine market is projected to experience substantial growth through 2020, a Zion Research report found, according to Times of Kabul.

Here are six things to know:

1. In 2014, the market was valued at $14 billion.

2. By 2020, the market is expected to hit $35 billion, growing at a compound annual growth rate of more than 14 percent between 2015 and 2020.

3. The teleconsultation services market dominated the market, and accounted for a large portion of revenue in 2014.

4. Additionally, telemedicine is a rapidly growing segment due to an increasing disabled and aging population.

5. In 2014, dermatology was the largest application market, and neurology is a vital application segment due to rising neurological complications including stroke and Alzheimer's disease.

6. North America was the dominant regional market in 2014, with Asia Pacific trailing closely behind. By the end of 2020, Asia Pacific is projected to lead the global telemedicine market due to more government support and more research development investments
