Dr. Lya Crichlow becomes American College of Surgeons fellow: 5 things to know

Southeastern Health's Southeaster Surgical Center physician Lya Crichlow, MD, became a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, according to a report from The Robesonian.

Here are five things to know about Dr. Crichlow:

1. Her practice focuses on robotic surgery and minimally invasive procedures including laparoscopic colorectal surgery, abdominal wall hernia repair and other general surgical procedures.

2. She earned her medical degree from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York and completed a fellowship in minimally invasive surgery at Tulane University in New Orleans.

3. She has board certification from the American Board of Surgery.

4. Physicians applying for the fellowship must graduate from an approved medical school and have certification from an American surgical specialty board.

5. This year the largest class ever admitted to the American College of Surgeons, including 1,679 physicians initiated.
