Do Physicians Discuss Cost of Treatment With Patients? 4 Statistics

Around 11 percent of physicians don't discuss treatment costs with patients because they do not know the costs, according to the Medscape Physician Compensation Report 2014.

When asked if they discuss cost of treatment with patients, respondents reported:

•    Occasionally, if the patient brings up the subject — 40 percent
•    I regularly discuss costs with patients — 32 percent
•    Never, because I don't know the cost of treatments — 11 percent
•    Never, because I don't feel that it is appropriate — 5 percent

The report includes responses from more than 24,000 physicians in 25 specialties.
