BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee awards 3 diversity scholarships — 5 points

The BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Community Trust is awarding more diversity scholarships for students, according to The Tennessean.

Here are five points:

1. In collaboration with the Memphis chapter of the National Association of Health Services Executives, BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Community Trust awarded a $10,000 college scholarship to three Tennessee minority students.

2. The scholarships are given to those undergraduate students who are interested in pursuing healthcare careers.

3. On Aug. 5, BlueCross CEO Bill Gracey presented the scholarships to the students in Nashville.

4. Bill Gracey said, "Administering that care is a great responsibility, and these three young people are eager to accept it. That shows they have both compassion and courage. Because health care is not for the faint-hearted."

5. Recent studies indicate minority groups are still underrepresented in medicine in relation to their numbers in the U.S. population and populations in specific regions, states and localities.
